PETALING JAYA: A deputy minister and two MPs failed in their bid to win PKR branch chief positions in Johor during the party polls.

Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir failed to retain his position as the Johor Baru PKR branch chief in the recent party elections.

Akmal, who is also Johor Baru MP, garnered only 587 votes, losing to his challenger, Mohamad Taufiq Ismail, who secured 709 votes.

According to the PKR 2025 election website, a total of 318 ballots were issued out of 406 eligible members.

On March 11, Maszlee, who is also a member of PKR's central leadership council, confirmed he would be contesting for the same position in the PKR party election scheduled for May.
