Johor cops seize 1.17kg of ecstasy powder worth RM110,000, arrest suspect


JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a man and seized over 1kg of ecstasy powder worth more than RM100,000 during a raid in Simpang Renggam here.

Kluang OCPD ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the raid was carried out at about 12.15am on Tuesday (June 9) along Jalan Pasar Simpang Renggam.

"The suspect, a 35-year-old local man, was arrested by the roadside during the operation.

"Further checks led to the discovery of 13 packets of suspected ecstasy powder weighing about 1.17kg and estimated to be worth RM110,006," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 10).

ACP Bahrin added that checks showed the suspect had eight previous criminal and drug-related offences in his criminal record.

"The suspect also tested positive for drugs," he said, adding that the man had been remanded for seven days from June 9 to assist in investigations.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.

ACP Bahrin also urged members of the public with information related to drug activities or other crimes to contact the Kluang district police headquarters hotline to assist investigations.
