KUALA LUMPUR: The MyDigital ID system has the potential to be an important mechanism in curbing fraud, while also enhancing identity verification, says Bukit Aman.
Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the department had held two engagement sessions with MyDigital ID, expressing confidence that its full utilisation could help prevent fraudulent activities.
"We believe that when MyDigital ID is fully utilised, it will be one of the mechanisms that can help prevent online fraud," he told a press conference after the Bank Heroes #JanganKenaScam 2026 Appreciation Ceremony here on Wednesday (June 10).
Also present was National Taskforce to Combat Fraud chairman Syed Ahmad Taufik Albar.
On concerns over the leakage of customer information, Comm Rusdi said MyDigital ID is equipped with various security features capable of reducing the risk of identity fraud.
"We have held engagement sessions and are now working to ensure that MyDigital ID is used in transactions across all banks," he said.
Meanwhile, Syed Ahmad Taufik said the integration of MyDigital ID with the banking Know Your Customer (KYC) system would help combat fraud more effectively.
Syed Ahmad Taufik, the Maybank group chief executive officer of community financial services, said however that there was no specific timeline for implementation as each bank had its own plans to adapt and explore the technology.
Earlier, 68 bank officers were honoured at the event for successfully detecting and thwarting fraud attempts, collectively saving customer funds amounting to RM139mil over the past year. – Bernama
