Sarawak choral festival draws 1,258 participants

KUCHING: Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that the Sarawak International Choral Festival and Symposium could grow into a major future choral event.

The festival, in its third year, will run June 18-21.

"The festival has attracted 1,258 registered participants," Abdul Karim told a press conference here on Wednesday (June 10).

Eleven international choirs from Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines will take part. Facilitators and participants will also come from Malaysia, Thailand and the United States.

The festival was organised by the Kuching Choral Society. It will feature masterclasses, workshops, friendship concerts and adjudicated performances by 34 choirs in eight categories.

Category winners will advance to the Grand Prix competition. Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi will attend the closing and awards ceremony.
