PUTRAJAYA: A special vehicle registration plate series, V___MY, has been launched as part of the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the move, done in cooperation with the Road Transport Department (JPJ), has the potential of appealing to those attracted to high-value number plates.
Bidding will be from June 13 to 17 on the JPJ e-Bid portal, with opening bids starting at a minimum of RM300.
Previous launches of special registration number plates have seen JPJ collecting between RM11mil and RM20mil.
Tiong thanked the JPJ and Transport Minister Anthony Loke for supporting his ministry’s efforts to ensure the success of VM2026.
"At the same time, this initiative helps us raise more funds to promote VM2026 as part of our efforts to attract more domestic and international tourists," he said in his speech read out by his deputy Chiew Choon Man here on Wednesday (June 10).
Tiong also urged members of the public, non-government organisations, tourism operators and industry players to enhance promotions and efforts towards VM2026.
"Our goal is not only to welcome 47 million international tourists but also promote more destinations and experiences that Malaysia can offer, so that more people will know about our country’s uniqueness.
"If our sector succeeds and tourists arrivals increase, it brings a major positive impact to the national economy, especially for the business community, hotel operators, traders, restaurants, transportation sectors and more.
"Everyone will feel its benefits," he said.
