Ayer Kuning polls: MACC opens operations room for by-election

IPOH: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has opened an operations room for the public to report information and complaints about corrupt acts and power abuse related to the Ayer Kuning state by-election.

According to a statement, the operations room at the Perak MACC branch in Bandar Meru Raya will operate around the clock from Saturday (April 12) until April 26.

"The public can also channel their complaints via email to aduan.prk.N48@sprm.gov.my or contact 019-600 2041 / 011-3320 9935 / 05-526 7000 (ext 163)," it said.

The MACC also reminded all candidates and political parties not to engage in activities that violate election laws and regulations, in line with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and the Election Offences Act 1954.

The Ayer Kuning by-election is being held following the death of incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin, 58, on February 22.

The Election Commission (EC) has set April 26 for polling and April 22 for early voting.

The Ayer Kuning state by-election will see a three-cornered fight involving candidates from Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN), and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM).

BN is represented by Tapah Umno secretary Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, 54, while PN has fielded Tapah PN chairman Abd Muhaimin Malek, 44, with PSM represented by its deputy secretary-general KS Bawani, 40. – Bernama
