Ayer Kuning polls: Perikatan candidate to visit as many homes during campaigning

TAPAH: Perikatan Nasional's candidate for the Ayer Kuning by-election, Abd Muhaimin Malek, aims to visit as many homes as he can during the campaign.

The Tapah PAS chief said he, along with the election machinery, would work hard to get support from the constituents.

"We want to meet all our voters.

"We want to go to all their homes if possible, to campaign hard with our machinery and all our funds," he said in a press conference at Arena Merdeka here on Saturday (April 12).

"We will meet voters from all corners of the constituency, Kampung Rahmat to Kampung Baru Coldstream," he added.

He said this after the nomination on Saturday.

Abd Muhaimin will face off against Barisan Nasional's Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir and KS Bawani of Parti Sosialis Malaysia.

Polling is set for April 26, while early voting is on April 22.

The by-election is called after its incumbent, Ishsam Shahruddin, 58, passed away on Feb 22.

The first-term state representative collapsed while participating in a friendly football championship in George Town and died at the Penang Hospital.

In the 2022 General Election, Ishsam polled 9,088 votes and won by a 2,213 majority, defeating Amanah's Mohd Nazri Hashim, Muhammad Noor Farid of PAS, Bawani, and Pejuang's Maziah Salim.

Abd Muhaimin said he hoped the by-election campaign would be conducted fairly.

"We hope for a good campaign that is filled with love and respect as we uphold the spirit of democracy.

"Even though this is my first time, I am hopeful for a positive result," he said, adding that responses from the people he has met have been positive.

"We contest to win," he added.
