PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong joined voters for breakfast during the Ayer Kuning by-election polling day.
In a Facebook post, Dr Wee shared moments with Ayer Kuning constituents who arrived early to cast their votes.
"Interacted with the Ayer Kuning constituents and MCA members during breakfast today. Many voters had an early start, coming out early to vote.
"One of them was 90-year-old Moo Sang, an MCA veteran in Ayer Kuning, who joined YB Senator Datuk Lim Pay Hen, Chenderiang state assemblyman YB Choong Shin Heng, Ayer Kuning New Village head Yeong Choon Choong, and me for breakfast after casting his vote early in the morning," he said.
Dr Wee expressed gratitude to all those on duty during the Ayer Kuning by-election.
"My heartiest appreciation to all party machinery, volunteers, staff, and uniformed bodies on duty at all voting stations for ensuring a smooth voting process today.
"Let’s hope for a better future for Ayer Kuning as the voters decide its future at the ballot boxes," he added.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) reported that voter turnout for the Ayer Kuning by-election reached 34.06% by noon.
A total of 31,315 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots at one of the 19 polling centres, comprising 63 channels.
The Ayer Kuning by-election features a three-cornered contest between Barisan Nasional candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, Perikatan Nasional candidate Abd Muhaimin Malek, and Bawani KS of Parti Sosialis Malaysia.
Dr Mohamad Yusri is scheduled to vote at the polling centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Lesong, Abd Muhaimin at SK Ayer Kuning, and Bawani at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Pheng Lok.
The by-election was called following the death of its incumbent, Ishsam Shahruddin, on Feb 22 due to a heart attack.
This marks the eleventh by-election held since GE15.
