Three dead, one severely burnt in early morning house fire in Menggatal


KOTA KINABALU: Three individuals were found dead, and one was severely burnt in a house fire in Kampung Darau Menggatal here early Friday morning (Aug 21).

The deceased were identified as Loupin Adow, 67, her son, Azman Maduin, 50, and her granddaughter, Nurul Asyiqin Alinor, 29.

The sole survivor was believed to be Nurul Asyiqin's 34-year-old husband.

The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre, in a statement, said it received an emergency call regarding the incident at 1.43am.

"The first engine from the Lintas Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) arrived at the location at 1.50am.

"The results of the on-site inspection of the destroyed house found the three dead victims, while one victim who suffered burns was sent to the hospital by the Emergency Medical Services (EMRS) engine for further treatment," he said.

The extinguishing operation was carried out using two 200-foot streams and two water jets from the fire engine tanks until the fire was successfully controlled at 2.10am, and the operation was completed at 5.19am.

"A total of 17 firefighters, including personnel from BBP Lintas along with an FRT, EMRS engine, and three four-wheel drive vehicles were at the location," according to the statement.

The extinguishing and rescue operation was also assisted by nine members of the police, three officers of the Health Ministry, and two Sabah Electricity personnel. – Bernama
