Father runs over daughter while reversing car

JOHOR BARU: A one-year-old toddler was killed when her father accidentally reversed into her while backing his car out of their garage here.

Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident in Taman Desa Harmoni is believed to have happened at about 2.30am on Saturday.

“A 27-year-old local man was reversing his car out of the house when he suddenly heard a noise from the left rear tyre.

“When he got out to check, he found his daughter bleeding and unconscious behind the car,” he said in a statement here.

He added that the man then rushed the girl to Hospital Sultan Ismail.

“The child suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the hospital,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

ACP Mohd Sohaimi urged drivers to exercise heightened caution and vigilance, particularly in the presence of small children, prior to commencing their journeys.

In a separate incident in Kluang, a 53-year-old clerk was killed when his car collided with a tree at KM57.5 of the Batu Pahat-Mersing road.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the incident is believed to have happened at about 11pm on Saturday when the man was travelling from Kluang to Mersing.

“Early investigation suggested that the driver lost control of the car, causing it to skid to the side of the road before hitting a tree,” he said in a statement.

As a result of the collision, the man suffered serious injuries to his head, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, ACP Bahrin added.
