AWOL soldier nabbed in Sarawak after going missing from Semporna post

PETALING JAYA: An Armed Forces member who was absent without leave (AWOL) has been arrested after being found in Sarawak.

In a statement on Thursday (March 26), the Armed Forces said the suspect had been on duty in the Semporna sector during Operasi Pasir before he was reported missing.

The soldier, attached to the 6th Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment, was found to be missing during a morning roll call at the Pulau Pandanan post on March 14.

“Investigations then led to his arrest by a team from the 3rd Company of the Royal Military Police Corps in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, on March 19,” it said.

It added that the soldier is currently being detained at Kem Muara Tuang for further investigation.

“A thorough investigation is being conducted to identify the exact reason behind his absence,” it said, adding that it urged the public not to speculate on the issue as this could affect the investigation.
