Pedestrian distracted by phone injured in three-vehicle accident in Bangsar

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman who was using her mobile phone while crossing the road was injured in an accident involving three vehicles along Jalan Bangsar here on Tuesday (March 24).

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the 20-year-old pedestrian had crossed from the left shoulder to the right at a non-designated crossing.

“At the time of the incident, the woman was believed to be using her mobile phone, which may have affected her awareness of the surrounding traffic conditions.

“This caused a motorcycle, ridden by a 31-year-old local man, to be unable to avoid her and collide with the pedestrian,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (March 25).

He added that following the collision, the motorcyclist lost control and crashed into two other vehicles.

“Both vehicles were stationary at a red traffic light at the time,” he said.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said the motorcyclist and the pedestrian sustained minor injuries.

“The victims were taken to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for outpatient treatment, while the other drivers were not injured,” he added.

Members of the public with information are urged to contact the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or the nearest police station to assist in investigations.
