A MALE elephant that weighs around two tonnes was relocated to a more suitable habitat after it had wandered into the Sekayu Agricultural Park, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Terengganu Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Loo Kean Seong said the animal, believed to be between 12 and 15 years old, was captured following a complaint about its intrusion into the park last Sunday.
“It entered the agricultural park alone. Some 20 of our personnel were involved in the operation,” Loo said.
The operation, which began at 9am on Thursday, took about three hours.
Loo added that two trained elephants, known as gajah denak, were also used during the move to transfer the pachyderm to a more suitable natural forest habitat.
This was the second elephant relocation in the state this year, with the first taking place in Setiu on Jan 24 involving another male elephant, he added.
