Opposition up in arms over alleged concealment

PETALING JAYA: Opposition politicians are demanding answers about whether there was a deliberate attempt to conceal the existence of the royal addendum order now that its existence has been confirmed.

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the Court of Appeal’s decision “proves” that certain parties intentionally tried to hide the royal addendum, a move he claims violates the “candour principle” the government is supposed to uphold.

“As Prime Minister, one is bound by an oath of loyalty to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Federal Constitution.

“Defying, concealing or denying the royal decree is a huge (act of) treachery to the King and the nation,” he said in a statement yesterday.

PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden also called for action against those responsible for allegedly concealing the addendum.

“PAS Youth views seriously the claims that there are individuals within the government who hid the royal addendum.

“This has tarnished the principle of the law’s sovereignty and the people’s trust in the government,” he said.

He warned that PAS Youth would mobilise a mass gathering to send a strong message to the government.

Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau also questioned the unity government’s silence on the issue.

He said the people deserve to know whether the addendum order was deliberately concealed or whether only selected excerpts were given to the Pardons Board.
