Scrap storage yard in Klang razed in fire


KLANG: A scrap storage yard near Surau Haji Maasom here was 95% destroyed in a fire on Sunday (Aug 23).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received a distress call at 12.37pm.

“Firefighters from the Klang Utara Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 12.42pm, about 5km from the station.

“The fire involved a Class C storage facility measuring about 60ft by 60ft. About 95% of the premises was affected by the fire,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Ashrul Riezal said no casualties were reported in the incident.

“The fire was brought under control at 1.03pm and firefighters are currently carrying out overhaul work at the scene,” he said.

Five firefighters and one Fire and Rescue Tender (FRT) from the Klang Utara station were involved in the operation.
