KOTA KINABALU: Three warehouse blocks used for storing plastic goods were destroyed in a fire in Penampang near here.
The fire also destroyed 12 vehicles – four vans, four four-wheel-drive vehicles, two five-tonne lorries, a car and a motorcycle – within the warehouse compound at Phase 2 of the Mogoputi Industrial Park at about 10.30pm on Thursday (Oct 22).
Firemen managed to stop the fire from spreading to six neighbouring factories after they established breaks to contain it.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department director Mohd Pisar Aziz said firefighters from the Penampang station found three warehouses engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene following a distress call.
They immediately requested assistance from the Kota Kinabalu and Putatan fire stations.
"All three permanent warehouse blocks, each measuring approximately 279sq m, were destroyed in the fire.
"A total of 12 vehicles in the area were also destroyed. However, no casualties were reported," Pisar said, adding that the fire was brought under control by 12.30am on Friday (Oct 23)
He said 29 firefighters were involved in the operation.
"Fire suppression work is still ongoing to ensure there are no remaining hotspots within the area," he said, adding that the cause of the fire and extent of the losses had yet to be determined.
Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd personnel were at the scene to assist operations, he said.
