Nothing was hidden in Najib's case, Anwar's political secretary says in defending justice process

PETALING JAYA: Nothing was kept hidden regarding the royal addendum in Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s case, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary.

“The difference is that we respect the justice process. The shallow-minded will not be able to understand,” PKR Youth deputy chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday (Jan 6).

On the same day, Najib obtained leave from the Court of Appeal in a 2-1 decision in his appeal relating to his claims of a royal addendum order that would allow him a house arrest.

In the majority decision, the appellate court overturned the High Court's dismissal of Najib's application for leave to initiate judicial review over the prison time imposed on him in the SRC International Sdn Bhd trial.

Meanwhile, in a statement posted on Tuesday (Jan 7), PKR Youth said police reports would be lodged across the country against individuals who made baseless allegations about the government allegedly concealing the existence of the addendum order

It said the document signed by the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Riayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and witnessed by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa had reduced Najib’s jail term (from 12 years) to six years) and fine (from RM210mil) to RM50mil.

“The government through the Prisons Department had only carried out its duty based on official procedures, and the valid documents that were received from the Pardons Board on Jan 29, 2024,” it said.

PKR Youth added that when the Pahang Palace had confirmed the existence of the royal addendum order, the Attorney General’s Chambers allowed it to be adduced to the court.
