Floods in Kelantan the worst in history, says state police chief


PASIR MAS: The current flood situation has been described as the worst in history, says Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat.

He said so far, 87,182 victims have been relocated to 287 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) as of 1pm on Saturday (Nov 30).

Victims were placed at relief centres starting Monday.

"This is just the first round of floods and it's already like this. For me, this is the worst flood so far," he said during a press conference at the Repek police station here, reported Sinar Harian.

The number of flood victims nationwide increased by nearly 10,000 within two hours, bringing the total to 130,957 involving 39,268 families as of noon on Saturday.

Kelantan and Terengganu have the highest number of flood victims and increasing in five other states namely Kedah, Selangor, Perlis, Negri Sembilan and Johor.
