DUNGUN: A fisherman has been reported missing after his boat capsized in waters off Pulau Tenggol near here.
Kemaman Maritime Zone director Maritime Commander Abdul Halim Hamzah said the boat carrying the victim, Sabrie Rusli, 32, who was alone at the time, was believed to have capsized at about 5pm on Thursday (Aug 27).
He said the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) activated a search and rescue (SAR) operation at 6.25pm after receiving information from the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre in Kuantan about the incident.
"The SAR operation, involving MMEA assets such as a CL415 aircraft, will be expanded according to weather conditions, currents and sea conditions to ensure the search area can be thoroughly covered," he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 28).
He said the SAR continued this morning, covering an area of 58.6 square nautical miles in Pulau Tenggol waters. – Bernama
