MCMC lodges police report over claims of drug sales on TikTok


PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has lodged a police report over the suspected sale of drugs on TikTok, says government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister confirmed that the report was lodged earlier on Wednesday (Sept 25).

“The MCMC lodged a report, so let’s allow the police to conduct their investigation.

“The MCMC will contact TikTok to find out how these accounts have been able to operate and sell drugs online,” he told a press conference here.

According to Fahmi, TikTok has since shut down the accounts and their content.

“Based on the products (seen) online, I have instructed the MCMC to broaden its investigation to find out if drugs are being sold on other social media platforms, not just TikTok,” he added.

Fahmi said he became aware of the issue after a post on X claimed that a TikTok account was offering drugs for sale.

On a separate matter, Fahmi acknowledged grievances aired on social media about hotel check-ins being delayed until as late as 4pm.

“I am aware of the complaints and the (complaints) on social media about this issue.

“This falls under the jurisdiction of the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, and I will relay these complaints to the ministry,” he added.
