Soldiers await their turn to cast their ballots at the Sendayan airbase.

REMBAU: Early voting on Tuesday (Aug 8) is going smoothly and is much faster than previous times, says Barisan Nasional deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

“The process that began at 8am seems to be going smoothly. There are three channels here at the Sendayan airbase and it takes only about two to three minutes for a voter to cast their votes.

“This is good because in previous years be it early voters or those voting on polling day, there were long lines and the process for each person was quite long. But here we can see that it is going quickly and efficiently,” the Defence Minister said when met at the airbase Tuesday (Aug 8).

Mohamad said as at 9.30am, around 15% of the Armed Forces servicemen and their spouses at the airbase had cast their votes.

“God willing, it can be completed before 1pm here.

“If this system is emulated on Aug 12 where the people are sent directly to their respective channels then it would be easy as there will be no confusion. And it would make the voting process quicker and easier,” he said.

Mohamad said that the right to vote for who you wanted was enshrined in the Constitution.

“It is the right of all to give their votes to those that they believe can lead and manage well. During campaigning there is a lot of talk but at the end of the day we must analyse and determine who we can give this trust to govern.

“I ask all to vote wisely and to not be influenced by the allegations and sentiments that have been thrown on social media. It’s a new way of campaigning and there is no filter on social media.

“We, as the people, must be able to determine what is right and wrong,” he said.
