State polls: 6,451 cops and their spouses eligible to cast early votes in Penang, says state chief


GEORGE TOWN: A total of 6,451 police personnel are eligible to cast their early votes for the state elections here in Penang on Tuesday (Aug 8).

State police chief Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said there were 979 police personnel casting early votes for the Komtar state seat.

"They are all carrying out their duties to cast their early votes.

"Each constituency has its own early voting centre, with a total of 217 channels in Penang" he said during a press conference after checking on the early voting stations at the Police Contingent Headquarters in George Town here on Tuesday.

Comm Khaw said there were a total 11,294 voters involving police and military personnel as well as their spouses in Penang.

"Of that, 6,451 of them are police personnel and their spouses, while the remaining 4,843 are military personnel and their spouses," he said.

Meanwhile, a total of 875 police officers and personnel from the Kedah police contingent fulfilled their rights as voters in Alor Setar in the early voting process for the state election.

They were seen at the police headquarters at Jalan Stadium from as early as 8am, to line up and check their names in the electoral roll provided by the Election Commission.

Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Fisol Salleh is expected to give a press conference later later.
