Disgruntled Umno members will vote for Perikatan in state polls, says Armada chief

KUALA LUMPUR: In a tit for tat retort to Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Bersatu's Armada chief warned the Umno president that Umno members may sabotage the party in upcoming state elections out of anger towards their leaders.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal's strong words were a clapback to Ahmad Zahid's recent statement that Perikatan would split up.

He believed that many Umno members were unhappy but did not dare to challenge the party president directly.

"They will show their true (feelings) during the state elections by voting for Perikatan Nasional.

"They cannot accept the cooperation between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan," he told reporters after accompanying Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin's private secretary Ahmad Ikhwan Fadhli to lodge a police report at Dang Wangi police headquarters here on Friday (May 12).

He was asked to comment on Ahmad Zahid's claim that Perikatan will split up.

"His claim is nothing but a diversion.

"The number of people who attended Perikatan's Hari Raya celebrations is so much more compared to the one organised by him (Ahmad Zahid)," he added.

Asked on possible plans by Barisan to allow unity government component parties to use its logo during the state elections, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said that would make it easier for Perikatan to explain things to the rakyat.

"We welcome it. By all means, use it in the east coast, the Malay heartland. We will make a clean sweep," he said.

On Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's challenge to the Opposition to propose a vote of confidence in his leadership during the next Parliament session, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said it has not been discussed by Perikatan leaders.

"We know (it is technically) very hard (to do so).

"However, anything can happen. It is a democracy and we have the right to choose any MP who is suitable to be prime minister," he said.

Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan are due to hold elections soon.
