Heatwave: Johor allows religious school students to don sportswear too

JOHOR BARU: Islamic school students in Johor are allowed to wear sports attire or appropriate clothing during the current hot weather.

State Islamic religious affairs committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said the permission was granted through a circular issued recently.

“The state government has taken a similar approach to that made by the Education Ministry for the well-being and comfort of Islamic religious school students in Johor.

“We have issued a circular allowing students to wear sports clothes when they go to class,” he said when met at the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Arena Larkin here on Thursday (May 11).

He added that they were using the same guidelines implemented by the ministry.

The students may use similar sportswear as their national school counterparts as religious schools did not have many options for sporting attire, he added.

“They can also wear Johor Student Character programme clothes or white T-shirts with sports pants. The important thing is to be neat and cover your aurat,” he said.

The current Johor Islamic school student uniform is white baju Melayu telok belanga with songkok and black sampin for boys, and white baju kurung with headscarf for girls.
