PETALING JAYA: Air quality levels in Serian, Sarawak are close to breaching the "very unhealthy" mark as of noon on Wednesday (Aug 12).
According to the Environment Department’s Air Pollutant Index Management System, an air pollutant index of 199 was recorded there as of noon.
Serian was one of 13 localities nationwide that recorded unhealthy air pollutant readings.
Other impacted areas included Kuching (175), Samarahan (174), Sarikei (161), Sri Aman (158), Bintulu (156), Samalaju (153), Miri (152) and Sibu (151).
In peninsular Malaysia, the impacted locations are Putrajaya (120), Cheras (107), Banting (103) and Kuala Selangor (101).
Unhealthy air quality readings are recorded when the air pollutant index ranges between 101 and 200, whereas very unhealthy readings are recorded when it ranges between 201 and 300.
Meanwhile, air quality across Shah Alam in Selangor, Mukah in Sarawak and Bukit Rambai in Melaka are bordering on “unhealthy”. They recorded air pollutant readings of 100, 98 and 96, respectively, as of noon.
