KOTA KINABALU: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah has struck back at Parti Warisan for accusing them of being fair-weather friends of the government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Gagasan Rakyat information chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan (pic) said the statement from Warisan’s Datuk Azis Jamman was a move to cover their own mistakes by pointing fingers at other parties.
Azis, who is Warisan information chief, earlier on Monday (March 6) said that Gagasan Rakyat only supported Anwar when the King called for the formation of a unity government.
He claimed the party will leave Anwar the moment a political crisis occurs at the federal level.
“Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) have made the decision together after the 15th General Election (GE15) to support Anwar as the 10th Prime Minister.
“It was not right for him (Azis) to make malicious claims even if he wants to become ‘Nujum Pak Belalang’ (A
P. Ramlee fortune teller movie) by claiming we will be the first party to leave the Prime Minister when political turmoil happens.
“The fact was Warisan including its information chief (Azis) were the ones that had no intent to support any national party or leaders, that was why they went solo during GE15.
“Their decision to support Anwar and the unity government was because they have no choice, as with only three Members of Parliament (MPs), they will not have any political bearing whether they support or not,” said Nizam in a statement here.
He said Azis was bitter due to the crossovers of their assemblymen who announced they were leaving the party with their grassroots supporters.
“This exodus was proof that all those who were in support of the Federal Government and the Prime Minister have long moved on, including GRS leaders, as proven by the Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor-led state government supporting decisions and visions of the unity government.
“With the support of Sabah government through the GRS and Sabah Pakatan Harapan leadership towards Anwar and the unity government, there was no acts of treachery, unlike what was done by several state leaders on Jan 6, masterminded by Warisan leaders to overtake and create a backdoor state government.
“So just because their own party and leaders have ill intent, don’t assume that other parties and their leaders are the same,” said Nizam.
