Gagasan Rakyat restructures divisions ahead of GE

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah said it restructured its divisions into 26 parliamentary-based units ahead of the coming general election.

Party president Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor (pic) said a special meeting approved a constitutional amendment creating 26 divisions, including Labuan. He said the previous structure had 74 divisions, including Labuan, based on state constituencies.

“As Party President, I am confident this decision is right, necessary and responsible.

“We must ensure our party is well organised,” he said in his keynote address at the Special Gagasan Rakyat Conference on Sunday (May 17).

Hajiji said the party made the change to streamline its organisation and prepare for federal elections. He said the new structure matched the current political landscape.

He said the supreme council made the decision after reviewing political conditions, organisational strength, machinery readiness and the party’s role in leading the state government.

“Positions may change, structures may change, and arrangements may change, but the struggle for Sabah must never change,” he added.
