Batang Kali landslide: Body of only Malay victim identified so far to be buried on Dec 17 night

SUNGAI BULOH: The remains of Nurul Azwani Kamarulzaman, one of the victims of the Batang Kali landslide on Friday (Dec 16), were escorted by her large family out of the Sungai Buloh Hospital to be buried on Saturday (Dec17) night.

Some 20 of the deceased's family members waited for several hours at the hospital’s Forensic Department as they underwent the identification process to claim her body.

Her mother, Siti Esah Hassan, said Nurul Azwani would be buried at the Taman Selaseh cemetery in Gombak later Saturday night.

“The last we saw her was on Wednesday (Dec 14) before she left for the camping trip,” she said before leaving.

It is learnt that Nurul Azwani worked at the canteen of SJKC Mun Choong.

She had joined a group of school teachers who had gone camping at Father’s Organic Farm where a landslide hit early Friday morning.

It was reported on Friday that several teachers from the school were involved in the landslide incident in Batang Kali, Selangor.

As of 8pm Saturday, the death toll stands at 24 with nine people yet to be found.
