KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional is considering the application of at least six parties who are interested to join the coalition.
Barisan secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said the applications of the parties are being considered by the coalition’s secretariat and the outcome will be announced “in due time”.

When asked by reporters after the Barisan supreme council meeting here to name the parties, Zambry refused to divulge but only confirmed that “it is more than one party”.
MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran when met by reporters said there were six parties who have made an application to join Barisan, but also refused to identify them when pressed further.
Newly-formed Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) had publicly made known its intention to join Barisan.

Currently, Barisan consists of four component parties: Umno, MCA, MIC and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah.
The supreme council meeting on Monday (Aug 15) night was attended by the top leaders of the four parties.
Zambry also said the supreme council had agreed to set up Puteri Barisan to mobilise the young women’s wings of all its component parties, which will be headed by Puteri Umno chief Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan.
He added that Datuk Seri Hishammudin Hussein’s term as Barisan treasurer has been extended for another two years.
