Cops open murder probe after body found in Sungai Perak


IPOH: Police have classified the discovery of a body in Sungai Perak, near Lembah Jetty in Kuala Kangsar, as murder.

Kuala Kangsar OCPD Asst Comm Heisham Harun said a post-mortem conducted by a forensic pathologist at the Taiping Hospital found that the deceased was a woman believed to be in her 30s.

Her identity has yet to be established as no identification documents were found on her.

“She is believed to be a non-Malaysian as no BCG vaccination scar was found, while a fingerprint search conducted by the National Registration Department in Perak found no matching records,” he said in a statement today. (Aug 19)

He said dental examination indicated that the woman was in her 30s.

“The deceased was about 154cm tall, weighed approximately 48kg, had a dark complexion and shoulder-length black hair.

“She was fully clothed in a black-and-white striped long-sleeved shirt, black jeans and earrings,” he said.

ACP Heisham said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

He urged anyone with information about the discovery or relatives who have reported a missing family member to contact investigating officer ASP Mohamad Fadhil Ab Wahab at 019-7272033 or the district headquarters at 05-7762222.

It was previously reported that the body of an unidentified person was found stuffed inside a bag near the Dataran Lembah Jetty in Kuala Kangsar.

The body was discovered by the public on Aug 14 at about 4pm.
