PETALING JAYA: Money and fame are the main reasons given by the youngsters who want to become an influencer online, but they concede that education is still vital for the future.
R. Sahatheyvan, 18, said a lot of teenagers are confused between money and the value of an education.
He questioned how long an influencer could stay that way.
“Some people are losing interest in formal education because they are obsessed with becoming online content makers, thinking it will help them in life.
“Education is like the backbone. I believe that higher education in any field will always be helpful. After pursing a formal education, they can pursue something interesting with the proper knowledge,” he said.
Nurul Adlin Nor Mohd Fauzi, 18, is of the view that those who want to become famous online are using it as a stepping stone to other avenues.
“They think they will gain popularity fast and easily, which is why some influencers go into acting and modelling. But in any path that you pursue, you need knowledge and wisdom,” added Nurul Adlin.
Nurul Afiqah Ahmad Rushi, 18, agreed that money is the motivation for youths wanting to become influencers.
“They want to become rich quickly and be famous, and maybe get a shot at acting roles. They’ll be judged by society based on what they are doing. I believe one needs a firm foundation and to know how the real world works before venturing into uncharted territories and get lost in all that confusion online. People who have weighed the good and bad of it will go far,” she said.
