IPOH: The three Perak assemblymen who joined Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) still support the state government, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

He said their change of party does not affect the state assembly composition.

“We still have 36 seats (from a total of 59). They only changed their party.

“They still support the state government,” he told a press conference at Tambun here Monday (Jan 10).

On Sunday (Jan 9), PBM president Larry Sng announced in Sibu that A. Sivasubramaniam (Buntong) and Paul Yong Choo Kiong (Tronoh) had joined the party.

Sivasubramaniam was appointed PBM senior vice-president II while Yong was made treasurer.

The duo joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia last year after quitting DAP following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan state government in 2020.

Another Perak representative who has joined PBM is Leong Cheok Keng (Malim Nawar), whose membership was terminated by DAP in January last year after he was believed to have joined MCA.

Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who was also at the press conference, said he was waiting for an explanation from Sivasubramaniam and Yong.

“I have sent messages to both of them but they haven’t replied.

“But it is okay. Today I’ve seen that the Perak government is still strong and I fully support Saarani’s administration,” he said.
