Massive traffic congestion in Penang, thousands late for work

GEORGE TOWN: Massive traffic congestions on roads leading to Bayan Baru and Bayan Lepas Monday morning resulted in thousands of motorists being late for work.

The bumper-to-bumper crawl on Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu stretched for some 5km while on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, traffic was moving at a mere 10km/h.

Penang Island City Council (MBPP) Engineering Department Deputy Director said the congestion was due to the closure of the costal road stretch in Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu for road upgrading works.
