A BOWLING event by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) to mark its 34th anniversary brought together close to 100 media practitioners from about 10 news organisations.
“The council’s 34th anniversary is not just a celebration of the establishment of a local authority, but also a symbol of the journey, progress and continuous commitment of MPAJ in providing the best services to the people of Ampang Jaya,” said MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari.
He was speaking at the “MPAJ Friendly Networking Programme with the Media” at Ampang Superbowl in Ampang Point Shopping Centre, Ampang.
In his speech, Hasrolnizam said the media played an indispensable role as a strategic partner in bridging the gap between local authorities and the public through accurate and ethical reporting.
“The media acts as a vital conduit to effectively convey policies, social programmes and welfare initiatives to residents,” he said.
“Programmes like today’s bowling tournament are not just sports competitions, but a platform to strengthen friendship, build understanding and foster a closer working relationship in a relaxed atmosphere,” he said.
Hasrolnizam expressed hope that the spirit of sportsmanship instilled through the bowling tournament would foster values that were crucial not only in the sports arena, but also in carrying out daily tasks to provide the best service to the community.
In addition to the top three team winners and consolation prizes, the tournament included prizes for the Best Male and Best Female players.
The team from The Star, comprising photographers Kamarul Ariffin Hassan, Ahmad Izzrafiq Alias and Mohd Faihan Mohd Ghani won third place overall.
Mohd Faihan was also named Best Male Player.
MPAJ was established as a municipal council on July 1, 1992.
