Newly sworn-in Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) councillor Wong Keng Chin also celebrated his 59th birthday yesterday.
Wong, who had previously served as MPAJ councillor, from 2024 to 2025, will be in charge of Zone 17 which is Pandan Indah.
Fellow councillors who greeted him after he took his oath at Menara MPAJ in Pandan Indah were heard asking him in jest if he had brought a cake for the occasion.
To this he playfully replied that they should have been the ones to do so.
Wong said his primary focus was to enhance cleanliness.
“As some 40% of Pandan Indah is largely made up of commercial areas, parking and traffic issues are two significant concerns I intend to improve.
“I am also looking to improve the aesthetics of the commercial and residential zones, including requesting building owners to repaint ageing structures.
“Focus will also be given to the repairing or rebuilding of ageing street lamps, drains and public parks showing significant wear and tear,” he said during the MPAJ full board meeting.
Wong said he planned to implement a one-way street system in the Pandan Indah commercial area to alleviate severe traffic congestion – a proposal that had been awaiting approval.
“As most of the complaints come from the Pandan Indah commercial area, this will be where my focus will be.”
Wong replaces former MPAJ councillor Woon Kwai Choong.
