IT IS encouraging to hear that Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) is planning to revitalise Rawang town while preserving its historical heritage.
As a proud Rawangite, I welcome this initiative.
However, it is sad to note that Rawang has already lost many of its important public landmarks.
These include the old government offices, Land Office, Rawang Magistrate’s Court and old police station.
Today, one of the few remaining green spaces in the heart of Rawang town is a green patch with 10 to 20 trees along Jalan Stesen near the train station.
Although small, it is a valuable asset to the town and should be preserved for future generations.
My suggestion is for MPS to turn the site into a small public park for the people of Rawang.
Such a park would provide a pleasant recreational space for residents, promote a greener environment and help preserve the town’s remaining natural heritage.
Rawang holds a special place in Malaysian history, being recognised as one of the earliest towns in the country to receive electricity.
From a small, peaceful town, Rawang has grown into a rapidly developing urban centre.
As the town continues to develop, I sincerely hope MPS will take this opportunity to address existing issues, protect our remaining heritage and ensure that development benefits the community without sacrificing our green spaces.
Let us preserve Rawang’s history, protect its greenery and create a better environment for future generations.
