Waste collection schedules to go online

THE social media pages and website of KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) will soon be the go-to place to find out about rubbish collection schedules.

This is part of the domestic waste collection and public cleansing service provider’s efforts to address the issues of unclear rubbish collection information.

KDEBWM website currently only provides links to the websites of 12 Selangor local councils.

More often than not, as in the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) website, the only information provided is a general notice on rubbish collection schedules for different premises.

For example, domestic waste collection in landed properties is done three times a week, while in commercial areas it is done almost every day, including Sundays.

KDEBWM managing director Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir said schedules for each area would be posted on its website and social media pages from this year.

“We used to post the schedules in group chats of councillors or joint management bodies.

“Given the public’s concerns about unclear information, we will now put the schedules on our social media pages and website so that they can directly access them.”

At present, the public can lodge complaints and also request for services, such as bulk waste collection via iClean Selangor, the KDEBWM app.

KDEBWM has also installed signboards to inform residents of their rubbish collection schedules.

However, some have been removed, while others are damaged or no longer readable, such as one erected in USJ3 Subang Jaya.

USJ3 resident Natalie Chan said she was not aware of rubbish collection days and times.

“I roughly expect it to be collected once every two to three days.”

Alice Teh said residents were not made aware of rubbish collection operations.

“There should be more engagement and participation so we can be aware of these operations that affect our daily lives.”

To this, Ramli said KDEBWM would replace the old blue and white signboards with new red and yellow ones as soon as possible this year.

“KDEBWM has installed about 6,000 to 8,000 rubbish collection schedule signboards across Selangor.

“Each residential area will have at least two signboards erected at its entrances and exits,” he added.
