Taman Saga residents want repairs expedited, progress updates
Residents in Taman Saga, Ampang, Selangor, have raised safety and access concerns over delays in slope repair works in their area.
The 6m hillside along Jalan Saga 17 partially collapsed in January after an Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) underground pipe burst.
Teratai assemblyman Yew Jia Haur, who visited the site yesterday, said residents were initially told that works would be completed in May.
“However, we are well into June but the project looks nowhere near finished.
“I hope IWK can expedite the repairs,” he said.
Taman Saga Rukun Tetangga chairman Ab Rahim Ab Rahman said the delay was causing access issues.
“Many residents, especially those from Jalan Saga 9 to Jalan Saga 15, use the affected road to enter and exit the housing area.
“Until repairs are finished, we are forced to take detours,” he said, adding that a section of Jalan Saga 17 was closed to facilitate the repair works.
Resident George Adaikalasamy Mariasoosay urged parties involved to provide regular updates.
“We understand there may be technical hiccups, but we want clarity.”
An IWK representative onsite said the delay was caused by water runoff from the slope.
“We had to monitor the situation to ensure it did not cause further damage.
“Works are now 70% complete; we expect to be done in two weeks, at the earliest.”
The partial collapse in January caused soil to move towards houses in Taman Bukit Teratai located below the hillside.
Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari, in a StarMetro report on Jan 20, said the local authority would monitor repair works.
IWK said in a statement that it would instal temporary sewer connection and emergency flow diversion as well as clean affected drains.
Follow-up works would include reconstructing a damaged pipeline and manhole, installing protective measures and full reinstatement of the slope, road surface and guardrail.
