A national gaming company organised a three-day beach clean-up programme at Pulau Perhentian, Terengganu.

The programme, which involved 39 STM Lottery employees, was carried out in collaboration with marine conservation practitioners from the Bubbles Turtle Conservation Project.

The initiative aimed to raise environmental awareness among employees while supporting marine ecosystem conservation efforts through experiential learning and hands-on sustainability activities, the firm said in a media statement.

The participants attended educational modules on marine ecology, turtle conservation, zero-waste practices and sustainability leadership.

Employees also took part in guided marine observation activities, turtle hatchery maintenance simulations and a beach clean-up session around the island.

During the beach clean-up activity, participants collected 52kg of rubbish such plastic bottles, plastic foam, fishing net, shoes and cigarette butts, contributing to the preservation and cleanliness of the island’s coastal environment.

STM Lottery general manager (communications and sustainability) Giam Say Khoon expressed his appreciation to all participants and partners for making the programme meaningful and impactful.

“This programme provided our employees with valuable exposure to marine conservation, environmental protection and sustainable living practices.

“They are also encouraged to adopt sustainable practices both at the workplace and in their daily lives,” he said.

STM Lottery had conducted environmental conservation initiatives over the years, including beach clean-up campaigns, tree-planting activities, recycling and island conservation programmes, as part of the company’s Helping Hands corporate social responsibility efforts and sustainability agenda, the firm added.
