The 41st edition of “Go For It! Cross Country Kuala Lumpur” is back, with more running categories to thrill both competitive and recreational runners.
Slated for July 5 at Padang Merbok Kuala Lumpur, the event organised by Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Athletic Association (FTKLAA) is set to attract 3,500 participants of different ages and abilities.
Events include a 15km Road Race in the Men’s and Women’s Open and Men’s and Women’s Veteran categories, and 10km Cross Country run (Open and Veteran categories).
There is also a 7km Cross Country race for secondary school boys and girls (age 13 to 17); 5km Fun Run (open to all), and 3km Cross Country event for primary pupils (boys and girls, age nine to 12).
FTKLAA president Datuk Seri V. Pulainthiran said this year’s event aimed to be more accessible to both seasoned runners and young participants.
“We have new extensive categories such as the 7km and 10km runs, which were not available last year.
“This year, 50 Orang Asli pupils from Batu 16 in Gombak, Selangor, will also participate in the run, sponsored by Rotary Club Kuala Lumpur,” he said during the launch at Wisma OCM.
STM Lottery Sdn Bhd has returned for the eighth consecutive year as the event’s title and main sponsor.
STM Lottery communications and sustainability general manager Giam Say Khoon said the company’s commitment went beyond business and was dedicated to creating positive impact in the communities it served.
“Our support for this event reflects three key priorities – promoting healthy and active lifestyles among Malaysians; supporting grassroots sports development, especially through partnerships with organisations like FTKLAA; and bringing communities together through meaningful engagement platforms.”
Also present at the launch was FTKLAA honorary secretary S. Murugesu.
The cross-country race started in 1985 initially targeted at schoolchildren.
It was later incorporated into a fun, cross-country run for the public.
Until May 10, early bird registration fees range from RM35 to RM65, while normal fees will be between RM45 and RM75.
Registration closes on June 21.
