WHEN Malini S. Nathan received a call informing her that she had won an electric vehicle (EV) car, she thought it was a scam.

Two weeks later, she was among three lucky draw winners under Public Bank’s 60th Diamond Jubilee Celebration Campaign, receiving a Proton e.MAS 7 car.

“It is such a pleasant surprise, I have never won anything this big before.

“It has been decades since I opened an account with Public Bank; I never thought it would lead to this,” she said after the prize-giving ceremony at Menara Public Bank in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

Launched in conjunction with Public Bank’s 60th anniversary, the campaign will run throughout the year with prizes to be given out quarterly.

Winners are drawn from among the bank’s customers.

In addition to cars, there will also be cash prizes worth RM26,000, RM16,000 and RM6,000 to be given away.

These are on top of 120 smaller cash prizes worth RM1,600 each.

By the end of the year, three winners will receive the grand prize of a BMW i5.

Public Bank chief executive officer and managing director Tan Sri Dr Tay Ah Lek in a statement said the campaign was in appreciation of loyal customers.

“This is more than a campaign, it is our heartfelt tribute to the millions of customers who have placed their trust in Public Bank for 60 years.

“We are thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone by giving back in a meaningful way,” he said.

Tay was accompanied by Public Bank non-independent non-executive director Teh Li Shian Diona to present the cars to the winners.

Edmund L, who received the car prize on behalf of his mother, said they could not believe the news when they first got it.

“We called the bank to verify if it is true.

“We also went to the nearest branch and spoke to an officer there.

“That is when we knew this was real,” he said, adding that they were excited to try out the new car.
