MORE than 100 refugee children and orphans from charity home Rumah Charis were treated to a special performance of Disney’s The Lion King Live in Concert.
The outing to Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s (KLCC) Plenary Hall was organised by Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Selangor Chapter, Kiwanis Club of Bukit Kiara (KCBK) and Dorsett Hotels Malaysia.
From the moment the curtains rose, gasps of delight and wonder filled the room as the soaring music and powerful storytelling kept everyone enthralled.
The movie screening featured a live performance of the score by National Symphony Orchestra Malaysia.
“Giving back to our community is at the very core of what we do; it is not just a one-off corporate duty,” said MAH Selangor Chapter chairperson and Dorsett Hotels Malaysia chairman Datin Jasmine Abdullah Heng.
“Seeing the sheer excitement, hearing their laughter and watching their faces light up with pure wonder reminds us why we champion these initiatives.
“We want to show them that they belong, and we hope this inspires them to dream boldly despite circumstances,” she said.
KCBK president Loke Kah Peng encouraged other organisations to come forward to collaborate for the sake of the less fortunate.
“Kiwanis is dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.
“Every child deserves moments that spark imagination and hope.
“Seeing how deeply the children connected with the performance proves that when the hospitality sector, non-governmental organisations and entertainment partners align their charitable goals, we can create a profound, lasting impact on vulnerable young lives,” he said.
The initiative was carried out through a RM10,000 donation from MAH Selangor Chapter and RM7,000 from KCBK, while Dorsett Hotels Malaysia provided nutritious dinner packs to every child.
The partners also expressed their appreciation to event company Milestone Production and its managing director Datuk Grace Lee.
