Council introduces five-part evaluation to gauge performance
SEPANG Municipal Council (MPSepang) will introduce internal awards at the end of the year to recognise its top performing councillors.
Council president Dr Ani Ahmad said the initiative was aimed at recognising councillors delivering high quality services.
She said councillors would be evaluated on five main components: community programmes, administrative management, green neighbourhood initiatives, environment as well as health and education programmes.
“Councillors will also be assessed on four key criteria, including efficiency in service delivery, facilitation of state programmes, collaboration and leadership within the community and discipline and integrity in their work,” she said after the swearing-in of the new batch of councillors at its headquarters in Cyberjaya, Selangor.
Ani said a total of 24 councillors were appointed, out of which 22 had taken their oaths.
The remaining two would be sworn in at a later date. Seven are newly-appointed councillors.
Previously overseeing the Labu zone, three-term councillor Hazimun Rahman Mohammad is now overseeing Desa Sentosa.
He said he would focus on strengthening local tourism for Visit Malaysia 2026, adding that places like Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi (BBST) Walk in Sepang can be promoted.
BBST Walk is a pedestrian lane, decorated with colourful murals illustrating the heritage and culture of Sepang, along with weekend bazaars.
“There are old towns in Dengkil, Pekan Salak and Salak Tinggi that can benefit from similar improvements.
“With the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) located in the municipality, we have the advantage of attracting tourists to stop by Sepang before they head to other locations.
“It will also be good if we can set up a plane spotting area for the public, especially families with young children, to view the planes up close,” he said.
“Such places are a hit with tourists in other countries.”
Three-term councillor Mohd Nazri Sohot, who oversees Taman Mas zone, said he would focus on improving communication with the public and speeding up the process of having their needs met.
“My area is near Sungai Klang and it is flood prone, so I am always contacted regarding flood concerns, which require immediate attention,” he said.
Long-time KLIA zone councillor Dr Teo Lian Seng said he would continue coordinating with local stakeholders to ensure all projects align with government policies.
Also present during the ceremony were Sungai Pelek assemblyman Lwi Kian Keong and Tanjung Sepang assemblyman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah’s special officer Rahimah Bibi Naoor Pitchai.
