MPSepang’s digital system speeds up minor renovation permits

SEPANG Municipal Council (MPSepang) is encouraging residents who wish to carry out minor renovations to their properties to use its My Minor Renovation (MyMR) system.

The council’s deputy president Muhamad Shah Osmin said the online application system, launched in 2023, enabled property owners to apply for permits for minor works such as installing awnings, gates and grilles.

The applications can be completed in about five minutes.

He said that manual applications typically take between 15 and 20 minutes.

To date, MPSepang had received 3,372 applications through the system, of which 2,460 had been approved.

“If all requirements are met, approval can be given almost immediately,” he said.

“A total of 812 applications were rejected because the proposed works did not qualify as minor renovations.”

He said the system was convenient as it could be accessed anywhere and saved the time travelling to the council’s offices, whether its headquarters or branch offices.

“It also simplifies documentation for MPSepang staff, as everything is done online, reducing the need for physical storage,” he said at the council’s full board meeting held at its headquarters in Persiaran Semarak Api, Cyberjaya.

Muhamad Shah also said that the MyMR system was recognised by the state government during the Selangor Public Service Innovation ceremony, where the project won second place under the service delivery (improvement) category.

He said the state government may extend the system to other local councils in the future. — By VIJENTHI NAIR
