KUALA LUMPUR: The preparedness level of six venues for the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) Selangor managed by the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) has now reached nearly 90 per cent, with the remaining preparations involving only some final coordination work, said MPSepang president Dr Ani Ahmad (pic).
She said the remaining preparatory work includes the installation of signboards, track and field maintenance, area cleaning, and the provision of special parking lots.
"Overall, all venues under MPSepang's purview are almost perfect, and it can be said that the preparedness level has reached nearly 90 per cent, while the remaining preparations only involve final touches," she told Bernama after the "Jendela Fikir" programme titled "SUKMA 2026: Sepang, Pentas Jaguh Negara" produced by Bernama Radio on Wednesday (Aug 5).
Ani said MPSepang has identified about 120 food truck operators and hawkers to provide food and beverage services at the six venues.
She said priority is given to local traders registered with MPSepang to ensure that the benefits of hosting the Games are also enjoyed by entrepreneurs in Sepang.
All the operators involved have gone through a screening process to ensure food safety aspects are complied with, including receiving anti-typhoid vaccinations.
"For example, at the Universiti Putra Malaysia Stadium for athletics, we have about 15 traders, while at the Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi Mini Stadium for football, between 15 and 20 traders have been identified," she said.
MPSepang is the local authority managing the highest number of venues for the Games, including the Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi Mini Stadium for men's football, the Universiti Putra Malaysia Stadium for athletics, and Dewan Sri Sarjana at Universiti Tenaga Nasional for pencak silat.
Other venues include Stadium Institut Penilaian Negara for archery, Persiaran Pantai Utara, Bagan Lalang for road cycling, and the National Velodrome Malaysia in Nilai, Negri Sembilan for track cycling.
Sukma Selangor 2026 will take place from Aug 15 to 24, featuring 469 events across 37 sports at 52 venues, including the National Velodrome Malaysia in Nilai. - Bernama
