FOUR rural primary schools in Teluk Intan, Perak have been selected to receive training in robotics and coding.
SJK(C) Yeong Seng, SJK(C) Pooi Seng, SJK(T) Thiruvalluvar and SJK(T) Ladang Jenderata 1 will be part of the “Mobile Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Robotics Classroom”, an initiative by the Rotary Club of Teluk Intan.
Club president Dr Tan Ming Gui said the project aimed to empower rural pupils and encourage their interest in STEM subjects.
“There will be monthly on‑site training sessions at each participating school over a period of 12 months.
“These sessions are designed not only to equip them with hands‑on skills in robotics and coding, but also to train teachers with the knowledge needed to sustain STEM learning beyond the programme,” he said in a statement.
“A total of 20 micro:bit robotic sets will also be distributed to the selected schools, enabling students to explore STEM through practical, engaging learning experiences.”
The initiative was launched at SJK(C) Yeong Seng Hall and is supported by OCBC Bank (M) Bhd.
Tan said the initiative reflects the club’s commitment to bridging the education gap and providing equal opportunities for rural pupils to access quality STEM education.
“We believe this initiative will inspire innovation and open new pathways for young learners.
“At the end of the one‑year programme, a final showcase event will be held, where pupils will present their projects and demonstrate the skills they have acquired.”
SJK(C) Yeong Seng headmaster Lim Chong Boon said the initiative would provide the school’s pupils with valuable exposure and opportunities.
“They will benefit from more engaging, hands‑on learning that builds confidence and improves problem‑solving skills.”
