IPOH: Police have conducted several raids on several cryptocurrency mining operations in Teluk Intan using stolen electricity.
Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Chua Kok Lian said the operation, held jointly with Tenaga Nasional Bhd on Tuesday (July 14), saw 75 cryptocurrency mining machines and 12 network equipment seized.
ACP Chua said investigations are now ongoing to track down the individuals involved.
"The case will be investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code and Section 37(1) of the Electricity Supply Act, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000 or a maximum of five years in jail or both," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
He said illegal power connections not only cause losses to the utility provider but also increase the risk of fire that can threaten human lives and property.
ACP Chua advised the public not to get involved or allow their premises to be used for such activities.
"Owners are urged to check on their tenants or monitor how they are using the property.
"Those with information of cryptocurrency mining operations using illegal electricity connections can inform the nearest police station," he said.
