Some 650 families can finally look forward to moving into their long-awaited homes by the end of the year following the revival of two abandoned housing projects in Balik Pulau, Penang.
The Quinton and Sri Bayu affordable apartments, originally launched under the Rumah MutiaraKu (RMKu) banner by a different developer in 2017, were rescued after Mah Sing Group stepped in.
Playing a key role in the revival was Mah Sing Group chief executive officer (property subsidiaries) Datuk Yeoh Chee Beng, who oversees residential, commercial and township developments.
These include the Rumah Madani, Rumah WIP and Rumah Mampu Milik schemes in the Klang Valley and Penang, as well as M Vertica in Cheras, Lakeville Residence in Jalan Kuching, M Aspira in Taman Desa, M Legasi in Semenyih, and Ferringhi Residence and Southbay Plaza in Penang.
Born in George Town and a former Penang Free School student, Yeoh holds an economics degree from the University of Western Australia and a Master of Business Administration from Universiti Sains Malaysia.
He began his career at Maybank Finance Bhd in 1996 before moving into the property industry with Hunza Properties Group Bhd in 2000.
He joined SP Setia Bhd in 2006 before moving to Mah Sing Group Bhd in 2011 as deputy general manager, later earning his appointment as chief executive officer in 2021.
Another DSPN recipient was Listen Security Sdn Bhd director Datuk Arumugam Sinnasamy, who was recognised for his contributions to business and the community.
Arumugam, 52, transformed Listen Security into one of Malaysia’s leading security service providers, employing about 6,000 people nationwide.
“My heartfelt thanks to the Governor and the Penang state government for this recognition.
“I accept it not only for myself but also on behalf of my family, our employees and everyone who has contributed to our journey over the years,” he said.
Known affectionately as “Aru” he has expanded the company’s services beyond conventional security into cybersecurity and artificial intelligence-driven solutions.
Apart from creating employment, he has contributed to the development of temples and mosques, supported Tamil schools, assisted single mothers and senior citizens and funded numerous welfare initiatives.
He has also served in various sporting organisations and helped nurture local football talent.
Looking ahead, he said technology would continue to transform the security industry.
“Security today is no longer just about guards on the ground.
“We are investing in cybersecurity, AI and smart technologies to meet the evolving landscape.
“Our goal is to transform security into a technology-driven profession that is respected and offers rewarding career opportunities,” he added.
He said the award strengthens his resolve to continue investing in innovation, creating quality jobs and making a lasting difference in the communities the company serves.
Meanwhile, M Summit Group chairman Datuk Seri Albert Moh See Eng, 63, received the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN), which carries the title Datuk Seri.
He said the award was a recognition of his leadership, dedication and contributions to the property industry, entrepreneurship and community in Penang.
Moh added that the group was committed to achieving a cumulative gross development value of RM3.5bil by 2035.
“We have achieved RM1bil and are now working towards the remainder.
“Over the next three to five years, we will undertake more developments in Penang in line with the state’s major infrastructure projects, such as the Penang Mutiara Line Light Rail Transit project,” he said.
Moh began his property development career with several companies in the 1980s and 1990s, gaining extensive experience in property development, project management and industry operations.
He founded M Summit Group in 2000, which has since grown into one of Penang’s established property developers.
Under his leadership, the group has delivered numerous residential, commercial and hospitality projects, including Ramah Pavilion, Scots Pavilion, London Pavilion, Tuan Pavilion, MSCity Factory Park and The Granite Luxury Hotel.
The Granite Luxury Hotel was recognised by Malaysia Book of Records for having the country’s highest cantilevered acrylic-bottom swimming pool and highest hotel automated carpark.
Moh said these achievements reflected the group’s commitment to delivering innovative developments that add value to the property industry and bring pride to Penang.
He is also Penang Master Builders Association deputy president and a member of the Wawasan Open University Industry Advisory Panel.
