Taiping woke up to a different kind of buzz – one powered not by traffic or routine, but by a community spirit and shared commitment to a greener future.
The Rotary Eco Challenge 2026, held at Taiping Market, was a lively celebration of sustainability in action.
From 8am, the market square transformed into a colourful hub of movement and learning.

The day began with an aerobics session before Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) councillor Ng Khai Ghee launched the programme.
He reminded those present that meaningful environmental change began at the grassroots, with ordinary people choosing to do small things consistently.
This was followed by a plogging challenge, where participants picked up litter from the surrounding area.
Around the venue, educational stalls, student‑friendly activities and an interactive quiz turned sustainability into something tangible.
Children and teenagers huddled over displays, learning how everyday habits shape the world they will inherit.
The 5R Quiz Challenge was built around the principles of refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle and recover.
This year’s theme, “Green Culture, Preserved Nature, Sustainable Living,” also spotlighted the importance of a Plastic‑Free Day, encouraging the public to embrace more mindful choices.
“The strong turnout and enthusiastic participation showed that the people of Taiping are ready to take action,” said Rotary Club of Taiping secretary Yeap Thean Eng.
“Together, we can create a healthier environment for future generations through simple yet consistent practices.”
