The Sibu Life Care Society has been lauded for its 40 years of dedicated service to the Sibu community, particularly in welfare and healthcare support.

Speaking at the society’s 40th anniversary dinner, Sarawak Deputy Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Michael Tiang said the organisation had long been regarded by the community as a symbol of compassion and humanity, as it has been extending assistance to those in need, regardless of race, religion and background.

“Sibu Life Care Society is always at the forefront when the community faces difficulties,” he said.

“Among the initiatives that are greatly appreciated is the free ambulance service provided to patients at any time. It is a source of pride for the Sibu community.”

The Pelawan assemblyman said the charitable spirit demonstrated by the organisation reflected the noble character of the local community.

“I urge the community to increase good deeds, good words and good intentions in order to build a more harmonious and prosperous society.

“By instilling goodness in daily life, it not only benefits oneself, but also the family and future generations.”

Tiang said that throughout its 40 years of establishment, the organisation had impacted many lives in Sibu, despite facing various challenges and questions regarding its sincerity.

“I have witnessed every effort and contribution of this organisation. That is why I promise to continue allocating RM20,000 every year to this organisation for as long as I remain a representative of the people,” he said.

Tiang also commended the society’s growth, noting that it now has nine branches across Sarawak.

He urged the corporate sector and the public to continue supporting the care organisation, describing every contribution as a meaningful “charitable investment” that could save lives.

“As often emphasised by the Premier of Sarawak (Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg), the state government always prioritises the people’s welfare through various initiatives such as the Basic Needs Assistance Scheme (SKAS), the Senior Citizens Health Benefit Scheme (SCHB) and the RM1,200 special assistance for university students,” he added.

Among those present were Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, Sarawak Premier’s political secretary Joshua Ting Fu Ying and Sibu Life Care Society chairman Chew Ching Kuong.
